With a view to recognise and reward food companies that adopt sustainable sourcing practices, thereby creating positive impact on environment and on the lives and livelihood of the producers, the Food Future Foundation launched the National Award for Sustainable Sourcing in 2020. This is supported by CII’s Food and Agriculture Centre of Excellence (FACE) as its Technical Partner.

In the 2021 edition of the Awards, the broad criteria were adapted from World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) Indicators. This included a focus on five areas, namely –
1) Governance & Strategy
2) Environment- Partnership to improve Suppliers’ Systems in the following
3) Nutrition, Health & Food Safety
4) Social inclusion among approved suppliers: How does the Applicant ensure the following
5) Innovation and Scale of Sustainable Sourcing
There were five levels of recognition and two categories, the award recognized every aspect of sustainable sourcing. The Award categories included large and small and medium business and Sectoral and CSR projects. Five levels of recognition are –
